Chiropractic Treatment
WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?
Chiropractic is a natural form of healthcare that focuses on the whole body and the relationship between the structure of your spine and the function of your nervous system. It is a conservative, non-invasive form of restoring your body to its optimal state of well-being. Chiropractors use their hands to manually manipulate the musculoskeletal system, without using drugs or surgical intervention. The spinal adjustments correct the misaligned vertebrae and help to restore nerve function to allow the body to heal on its own. They also focus on treating the muscular dysfunctions of the spine or extremities with myofascial treatment, postural rehabilitation, stretching and strengthening exercises.
Healing the body from the inside out with vitamin supplementation and a healthy diet is also an important part of chiropractic care.
Chiropractic has been known to help with low back pain, neck pain, headaches, sprains/strains to the back or extremity, sciatica, vertigo, TMJ, whiplash, scoliosis, sports-related injuries and other neuro-musculoskeletal dysfunctions. It has also been known to help with pregnancy-related issues, as well as adolescents with chronic ear-infections and asthma. Chiropractic has also been shown to improve immunity, decrease stress and decrease blood pressure by restoring optimal function to the nervous system and allowing the healthy transmission of nerves to the organs in the body.
We only have one spine, so keeping it well and maintaining a healthy lifestyle should be a priority!
Therapies
To complement the manual adjustments, physiotherapies can be used to: decrease the healing time of the injury, decrease muscle spasm or hypertonicity, decrease pain, decrease inflammation, or strengthen muscles. The different forms of these therapies that are offered here are:
Electric Muscle
Stimulation
Ultrasound
Therapy
Hydrocollator
Heat Therapy
Cryotherapy
Ice Therapy
Techniques
There are several different chiropractic techniques, which make adjusting quite an art form. Each condition and person may require one or multiple techniques based on the way their body reacts or how acute the injury is. At this office we use:
• Diversified manual technique
• Activator technique
• Thompson Drop Table
• Trigger point therapy and myofascial release
• Flexion Distraction
Nutrition
Eating a well-balanced diet is critical in living a healthy lifestyle. However, sometimes our body calls for more nutrition than we can get from our food and we must supplement with additional vitamins and minerals. Here at McArdle Chiropractic and Wellness Center we can advise you on what those nutrients may be, based on your symptoms, medical conditions or concerns. We can advise you on a personalized plan based on your nutritional needs and goals. Every body is different and a generalized multi-vitamin does not satisfy everyone’s unique needs.
